Body Currents

Body Currents is a dynamic workshop and performance programme that will enthuse Highland people about dance using a wide range of stimulating and imaginative opportunities. This new dance project will catalyse and coordinate dance performances and development programmes in four Highland communities that will inspire those participating in it and those who see it, and maintain and extend their interest in dance.

The Dance Catalysts for Skye & Lochalsh are Lorayne McLucas and Alex Emerson. Lorayne has been working with SkyeDance, and SkyeDance will be working in collaboration with the partners for the duration of the project. The Dance Catalysts will develop, together with the local community, a series of regular classes, workshops and training events in dance that attract and appeal to a range of interests, ages, and ability levels. This will culminate in a major event that features performances by the community and school groups which have evolved.

Body Currents will be delivered by the Body Currents partners led by Eden Court and featuring the performance company, Plan B, and The Highland Council. This partnership presents a unique and robust combination of experience and vision coupled with the practical ability and knowledge to deliver effectively.

The project theme is water - how individuals and communities use it, react to it and think about it, in economic, social, environmental and cultural terms. The performance will be located in at Eilean Donan Castle, Dornie.

The project will lead to the development of a dance strategy for the Highlands and hopefully a more enduring and embedded presence on the curriculum of Highland schools.
